Krister got his start in the industry when he was hired by KXLY in Spokane as a TV news photojournalist after graduating from Washington State University in 1991. He has successfully pursued a freelance career working for major television networks, including shooting sports events for ESPN, as well as local production companies.

As a child in California, Krister was often glued to PBS nature documentaries and National Geographic TV specials. He grew up wanting to travel and capture amazing pictures, meet fascinating people from far-away places, and tell their stories. His first opportunity to pursue his childhood dream came in 2000 with an international Christian missionary group that produced documentary films.

Since then, Krister has worked on film productions for international faith-based organizations in more than 20 countries. He has helped produce videos in India, North and West Africa, Europe, and the South Pacific. In 2006, Krister helped on the feature film project, “The Enemy God,” which tells the remarkable story of the Yanomamo people in the jungles of the Venezuelan Amazon.

Based in Spokane, Krister has great insight into the challenges of forging a career in the industry while residing outside the major news and film centers, and balancing a workload that pays the bills with production opportunities that align with his passion to tell the deeply felt stories of people from around the world.

Satterlund has been writing and working on films for over 25 years.  He has extensive experience in all areas of production including writing, directing, producing, cinematography, editing, computer animation, and photography. He currently produces commercials, documentaries, music videos, and feature films for Big Puddle Films a full service film production company established in 2001.  He has a firm niche as an adventure filmmaker and travels the world to shoot in challenging conditions.

Early on he developed a skill as a storyteller and this took him around the world on projects as diverse as filming manta rays in Hawaii, street children in Russia, and Loretta Lynn in a barn.  He is the only person ever to conduct a night shoot in the ancient city of Petra, and the first person in America to use film lenses on an HD camera.

Satterlund has done extensive work for clients such as Adventist Health, The National Republican Party, CNN, Bon Jovi, Hallmark Entertainment, and the Country of Jordan.

His latest feature film, “The Human Trace,” is currently on the film festival circuit and winner of the Golden Eddy Award for best feature film, at the Cedar Rapids Film Festival.
