KNIFVES was started in early 2006 by W.J. Lazerus as a way for he and his local production friends to discuss what was happening in the area industry during a monthly meeting at a restaurant. Quickly the number of attendees swelled, jumping from 4 to over 80 in less than a year, drawing the attention of the Idaho Film Commission and other regional organizations. Today, the group continues to meet monthly, welcoming guest speakers over lunch, working hand-in-hand with government, business and individuals to bring additional opportunities to the area, and offering ample time to socialize and network. In 2007, several special interest groups were created and the first KNIFVES-based production was shot, a comedic short film titled, "Old Things". Also, Several KNIFVES members have teamed up on their own to create short films which have played at local and national film festivals, as well as a boating safety PSA which may appear on TV in the near future.
